Prayers of the Faithful for Married Couples
Married life includes ordinary work, shared joy, difficult conversations, and periods when support is especially needed. These intentions pray for couples without assuming that every marriage is safe or uncomplicated. They can be used at a parish Mass with a marriage focus or as a source for one petition within another set. An anniversary Mass and a wedding have their own practical concerns, so use the related pages when the celebration is specifically one of those occasions. Valentine’s Day may be a local context, but it does not determine the liturgical day or replace the wider needs of the Church.

Trusting in God’s faithful love, let us pray for married couples and for every home in need of peace.
Lord, hear our prayer.
For the Church, that God may strengthen her support for married couples and guide those who accompany families through difficult times.
We pray to the Lord.
For those responsible for work and family policies, that the Lord may guide decisions that protect stable homes and the wellbeing of children.
We pray to the Lord.
For people who feel unsafe or alone within their homes, that God may bring protection, trustworthy help, and a path towards peace.
We pray to the Lord.
For married couples, that the Lord may deepen their patience, renew their tenderness, and sustain them through changing seasons of life.
We pray to the Lord.
For husbands and wives who have died, that Christ may grant them eternal rest and comfort their surviving spouses and families.
We pray to the Lord.
For our parish, that God may help us support couples without judgement and include people whose family circumstances differ from our own.
We pray to the Lord.

For Valentine’s Day
An ordinary parish set can include a prayer for faithful love and companionship. Check the actual liturgical celebration, and do not label the date a Lenten observance or a wedding anniversary without reason.
Care for difficult circumstances
Do not tell people experiencing harm that prayer requires them to remain in danger. Use wording that supports safety and appropriate help alongside prayer for faithful married life.

Are these the same as wedding prayers?
No. These intentions concern couples already living married life. A wedding set should also attend to the couple beginning that commitment and the form of the wedding celebration.
Can separated or widowed people be included?
Yes. Keep the prayer sensitive to differing circumstances. A parish celebration of marriage should not make people facing grief or separation feel invisible.
Can we use a couple’s names?
With permission, a brief name can be added to the fourth petition. Leave private difficulties and personal histories out of the public text.
