Begin with the people and needs the congregation is bringing to God. These pages offer complete sets rather than leaving you to assemble a long list of unrelated requests. Choose a matching need, keep any personal information appropriate for public prayer, and preserve the broader concerns of the Church and the world.

One need can fit within a complete set

An illness, disaster, or local concern does not require every petition to use the same theme. A focused intention can sit alongside prayer for the Church, public life, the departed, and the community.

Pray with care for the people named

Use accurate, restrained wording. A first name or general description is often enough. Avoid diagnosing, assigning blame, promising an outcome, or revealing a private circumstance.

PRACTICAL GUIDANCE

Preparing these prayers.

Can I add a local person’s name?

Yes, when its public use is appropriate. Confirm spelling and pronunciation, and do not add private details that the person has not wanted shared.

Should I combine several complete sets?

No. Choose one set and replace a petition where needed. Combining whole sets produces repetition and an unnecessarily long prayer.
