Prayers of the Faithful for Christian Unity
Prayer for Christian unity asks God to heal division and deepen faithfulness to Christ. It should not pretend that differences between churches have disappeared, or use worship to criticise another community. This set remembers Christians who suffer together, families whose members worship in different traditions, and local opportunities for friendship. It can support an ordinary Mass during a period of prayer for unity. For an ecumenical service, prepare the order of worship with the participating churches; these Catholic Mass examples are not a substitute for their shared planning.

Christ calls his disciples to love one another. Trusting in him, let us pray for unity and peace.
Lord, hear our prayer.
For the Church, that the Holy Spirit may deepen her fidelity to Christ and guide Christians towards the unity he desires.
We pray to the Lord.
For religious and civic leaders, that God may strengthen their work against hatred and protect freedom of conscience for all.
We pray to the Lord.
For Christians facing persecution and for neighbours of every faith who suffer beside them, that the Lord may grant protection and hope.
We pray to the Lord.
For families whose members worship in different Christian traditions, that God may bless their patient listening and sustain their love.
We pray to the Lord.
For Christians who have died while serving peace and reconciliation, that Christ may welcome them into the joy of his kingdom.
We pray to the Lord.
For the Christian communities of our neighbourhood, that the Lord may help us recognise one another’s gifts and serve people in need together.

Be specific about shared service
A petition can name a food project, hospital chaplaincy, or other genuine local cooperation without claiming that the churches involved share every belief or practice.
Prepare an ecumenical service together
Agree texts, ministers, responses, and practical arrangements with the communities taking part. Do not assume that a Catholic Mass outline is the common order for a joint service.

Does praying for unity mean ignoring doctrinal differences?
No. Ask for truth, charity, patience, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Respectful prayer does not require pretending that important differences are absent.
Can we name neighbouring churches?
Yes, if the names and circumstances are accurate. Speak as neighbours praying for one another, not as though you represent another church without its knowledge.
Can these intentions be used outside a unity observance?
Yes. Christian unity is a continuing need. A single appropriate petition can be included in another complete set when the parish judges it suitable.
