Do not reveal someone’s immigration circumstances, route, or family details in a public petition. The prayer should ask for dignity and care without becoming a policy speech.

For people fleeing violence or persecution, that the Lord may protect them from exploitation and guide them towards safety and support.

For migrant families separated by distance or uncertainty, that God may sustain their love and open paths towards stability and reunion.

For those who have died while seeking a safer life, that Christ may receive them into peace and console their families.

For our neighbourhood, that the Lord may help established residents and newcomers learn from one another and build lasting friendships.

Use people-first wording
“Families seeking safety” or “people arriving in our community” may communicate the need more clearly than a broad label. Do not assume that every migrant is a refugee or that every newcomer has the same legal situation.
Protect confidential circumstances
A person’s name, location, or immigration history may create risk when published. Pray collectively unless there is informed permission and a clear pastoral reason to be more specific.

Can we pray for receiving communities too?
Yes. Ask for practical support, patience, and mutual understanding. Care for newcomers and care for established neighbours need not be placed in opposition.
Should an intention mention a government policy?
Usually the human need and the responsibility involved are enough. Detailed policy arguments belong outside the spoken prayer and require careful factual treatment.
Can we adapt this after a local arrival or resettlement?
Yes. Use verified information and agreed wording, without disclosing confidential details. Name the practical need rather than presenting people’s lives as a public case study.
