Prayers of the Faithful for Creation and the Environment
Care for creation includes the land and water on which people depend, the animals entrusted to human care, and communities affected by environmental harm. These intentions are requests for protection and responsible action, not a scientific report or a blessing of animals. Use verified local circumstances if drought, damaged water supplies, or a loss of habitat is relevant. When the parish holds an animal blessing or another blessing rite, consult the approved order for that celebration. The ordinary Mass set below may support the same concern without replacing the rite itself.

For those responsible for land, water, and energy, that the Lord may grant wisdom and protect communities affected by their decisions.

For people living with polluted water or damaged farmland, that God may bring effective help and restore their means of living.
We pray to the Lord.
For animals dependent on human care, that the Lord may protect them from cruelty and guide those responsible for their wellbeing.
We pray to the Lord.
For those who have died through environmental disasters, that Christ may receive them into peace and comfort their grieving families.
We pray to the Lord.
For our community, that God may strengthen careful stewardship and bless practical efforts to reduce waste and care for our surroundings.

A petition for rain and drought
Where drought is verified, replace the occasion petition with: “For communities enduring drought, that God may grant needed rain, protect their livelihoods, and strengthen those sharing scarce water.” Avoid announcing an unverified emergency.
Prayers for animals and a blessing rite
An intention can ask for humane care of animals. It does not perform a blessing or replace the approved prayers and actions used by the minister at an animal-blessing celebration.

Only details necessary to understand the need should enter the petition. Use verified facts in explanatory material; the spoken prayer should remain clear and brief.
