A rosary for a death anniversary
A rosary offered for someone who has died is a devotion, not the Universal Prayer at Mass. Keep its structure distinct: state the intention briefly, then pray the rosary while meditating on its mysteries. The Vatican's Directory on Popular Piety recognizes prayer for the dead alongside the rosary and other devotions.
Original opening intention for a family rosary: We offer this rosary for [Name], asking God to grant eternal rest and to comfort all who remember this anniversary.

A nine-day prayer before a death anniversary
A novena is prayer over nine successive days. It is distinct from announcing intentions at one Mass. An anniversary novena is a voluntary devotion; do not present a personal nine-day plan as a required funeral rite or promise that completing it guarantees a particular result.
One simple original plan is to name the deceased, pause in silent prayer and say the following prayer on each of nine days ending on the anniversary. This plan is offered for private or family prayer, not for insertion into the Mass.
Original daily prayer: Merciful Father, receive [Name] into your peace. Strengthen those who grieve, and keep us faithful in prayer and loving care. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Ask the parish about arranging an anniversary Mass separately. Devotional prayer and the liturgical celebration support one another without becoming the same thing.
Short, original death-anniversary prayer wording
If you want a brief line for a remembrance card or message, use clearly identified original wording rather than attaching a saint's name to an unverified quotation.
Original personal prayer for a husband's anniversary: Lord, receive my husband into your peace, and sustain me with hope as I remember him with love.
