These sets are suitable after a milestone, a successful period of work, an answered prayer, or a shared parish celebration. Choose one set and mention the reason for thanksgiving briefly in the introduction or one petition. Avoid treating the prayers as a report of achievements or a roll of benefactors. Keep those facing hardship present in the celebration. Their needs remain part of the prayer even when the local community is marking a joyful occasion.

With gratitude for God’s many gifts, let us bring before him the needs of the Church and the whole world.
Lord, hear our prayer.
For the Church and all her ministers, that God may renew their hope and strengthen their care for his people.
We pray to the Lord.
For families living through war and displacement, that the Lord may protect them and bring peace to their homelands.
We pray to the Lord.
For those facing surgery or a difficult diagnosis, that the Lord may calm their fears and guide the hands of their carers.
We pray to the Lord.
For all whose kindness has supported us, that God may bless their lives and sustain them in their own needs.
We pray to the Lord.
For our deceased relatives, friends, and benefactors, that God may reward their kindness and welcome them into his peace.
We pray to the Lord.
For our community giving thanks today, that the Lord may bless our life together and support those facing difficult days.

Thanksgiving Mass intention wording
For a Mass request, name the reason for thanksgiving simply. The parish will confirm the date and how the intention is recorded; this does not require reading a personal message during the Universal Prayer.
Family example: In thanksgiving for the blessings received by the Ndlovu family.
Recovery example: In thanksgiving for Samuel’s recovery and for all who cared for him.
Anniversary example: In thanksgiving for Ruth and Peter’s twenty-five years of marriage.
An offering supports the Church’s ministry; it does not buy a spiritual result. Ask the parish about its practice and speak to the priest if an offering is difficult.

Are the intentions themselves prayers of thanks?
They may arise from gratitude, but the Universal Prayer remains intercession for the needs of the Church and the world. A short thankful introduction can lead naturally into those petitions.
Can these be used after an anniversary or completed project?
Yes. Name the occasion briefly and adapt one community petition. Keep the other intentions broad enough to include people outside the celebration and those experiencing difficulty.
Should we name every benefactor?
A collective prayer for benefactors and supporters is usually clearer. Personal acknowledgements can be made elsewhere, without lengthening the intentions or making them sound like a list of credits.
