Resources for Preparing the Universal Prayer
Use the right resource for the question in front of you. Church guidance explains the prayer’s purpose and roles; a book or example offers wording to consider; a template helps arrange the final set. For a special rite, begin with the approved liturgical text rather than a general example.
Authority and examples have different jobs
GIRM 69–71 is a foundation for the ordinary Universal Prayer. A diocesan or publisher example can be helpful, but it is not automatically a prescribed text for every parish or celebration.
Prepare a usable final copy
After choosing the wording, check roles, response, names, and page breaks. A resource has served its purpose when the priest, reader, and congregation can each follow the prayer clearly.
Research and prepare
Prepared with GIRM 69–71 as the guiding standard: brief, sober intentions for the Church, the world, people in difficulty, and the local community, with an introduction and conclusion for the priest. These original examples may be adapted for the celebration and reviewed by the celebrant.
