Prayers of the Faithful for Sacramental Celebrations
A sacramental celebration can give the intentions a particular focus, but each rite has its own structure. Choose the precise setting and the people actually taking part. Original intercessions can support preparation where free composition is appropriate; they do not replace a prescribed litany, blessing, or ritual prayer.
Name the stage accurately
A person preparing for baptism is not yet newly baptized; a candidate for ordination is not yet ordained. Choose the wording that describes the celebration honestly, and check names with the parish preparation team.
Keep the wider Church present
One or two focused intentions can pray for candidates and those supporting them. The rest can continue to include the world, people suffering, the departed, and the local community.

Prepared with GIRM 69–71 as the guiding standard: brief, sober intentions for the Church, the world, people in difficulty, and the local community, with an introduction and conclusion for the priest. These original examples may be adapted for the celebration and reviewed by the celebrant.

Should every petition focus on the sacrament?
No. A suitable local focus can sit within prayer for the whole Church and world. Keep the number of special references restrained.
