Prayers of the Faithful for Confirmation Mass
Confirmation intentions ask for the grace of the Holy Spirit for those being confirmed and bring the needs of the whole Church before God. They need not explain the sacrament or repeat the names of its gifts in every petition. These sets use one focused prayer for the candidates and a further intention for those supporting them. The other petitions retain the wider concerns of the Universal Prayer. Choose a set that suits the congregation and confirm the wording with the parish or diocese preparing the Mass. Names of candidates are usually best kept as a collective reference when the group is large.

Trusting in the Father who gives us the Holy Spirit, let us pray for those being confirmed and for the whole world.
Lord, hear our prayer.
For the Church throughout the world, that God may strengthen her faith and sustain her mission among all peoples.
We pray to the Lord.
For public leaders and all entrusted with authority, that the Lord may grant them wisdom and protect the people in their care.
We pray to the Lord.
For all who lack a safe home or enough to eat, that the Lord may provide help and restore their hope.
We pray to the Lord.
For those receiving Confirmation, that the Holy Spirit may strengthen their faith and give them courage in daily life.
We pray to the Lord.
For deceased members of our families and parish, that Christ may welcome them into the joy of his kingdom.
We pray to the Lord.
For sponsors, families, and catechists, that God may bless their support and sustain them in their own journey of faith.

Should the intentions explain the gifts of the Holy Spirit?
A brief request for the Spirit’s help is fitting. The intentions are prayers, so they should not become a lesson about the sacrament or a long explanation of each gift.
May we include the bishop by name?
Yes. Confirm the name and title of the celebrant before printing. A Church petition can pray for the bishop along with Pope Leo XIV and those serving the people of God.
Can these be used for adults being confirmed?
Yes. The wording says “those receiving Confirmation” or “candidates,” so it can suit adults as well as young people. Adapt the community petition to the people supporting them.
