Prayers of the Faithful for a School Mass
A school Mass gathers a community with many ages, roles, and needs. The intentions should be easy to hear the first time and brief enough for a young lector to read confidently. These three sets keep the ordinary breadth of the Universal Prayer while including the life of the school. Choose one complete set and adapt a single petition for the beginning of term, Catholic Schools Week, or another local occasion. Readings and current needs may suggest a further small change. Avoid giving every class or activity a separate petition; a few clear requests allow everyone to pray together.

Gathered as God’s family, let us pray for our school and for all who need his care.
Lord, hear our prayer.
For Pope Leo XIV, our bishops, and all the faithful, that God may keep his Church united in faith and love.
We pray to the Lord.
For the peoples of the world, that God may end violence and open a safe path for those driven from their homes.
We pray to the Lord.
For those living with pain or illness, that God may give them strength and bless all who care for them.

For our school, that God may bless our learning, strengthen our friendships, and support everyone who shares its life.
We pray to the Lord.
For those who have died during this past year, that the Lord may grant them mercy and everlasting peace.

For families in our community, especially those facing hardship, that the Lord may provide help and bring peace to their homes.

School foundation day
A foundation day can remember those who established the school while praying for its present pupils, staff and families.
Original intention: For our school on its foundation day, that God may bless its pupils and staff and sustain all who serve this community.
Use this as a replacement for the local-community petition in the complete set, not as an extra series of tributes.
A school Mass of the Holy Spirit
Ask the celebrant whether a Mass of the Holy Spirit is permitted on the chosen day. A school event does not override the liturgical calendar.
Original intention: For our school community at the beginning of this year, that the Holy Spirit may guide our work and strengthen our care for one another.
Keep the other intentions broad enough to remember the Church, public needs and people who are suffering.

Can these be adapted for Catholic Schools Week?
Yes. The third set includes a Catholic school intention. You may name the school or the celebration once while keeping the other petitions focused on the Church, the world, and people in need.
How can a child read an intention clearly?
Give the reader one complete sentence in a large, uncluttered typeface. Rehearse at the ambo if possible, speaking slowly and pausing before the invitation to respond.
Should each class write its own petition?
Classes may contribute ideas, but prepare one coherent final set. Combine repeated needs and keep the total within the five to seven intentions used by this site.
