Prayers of the Faithful for Feasts and Solemnities

Choose the feast actually being celebrated in your parish. The examples give it a fitting emphasis without repeating a saint’s name or a theological theme in every sentence. Check the local date and readings before preparing the final copy, especially when an observance can differ between countries or dioceses.

A fitting reference is enough

The introduction can name the celebration, and one or two petitions can reflect its particular concern. The rest should continue to include the Church, the world, people suffering, and the local community.

Feast, devotion, and civil event

A liturgical feast, a devotional gathering, and a civil anniversary are different settings. Use the correct page and do not assume that a popular date or title automatically determines the Mass.

Prepared with GIRM 69–71 as the guiding standard: brief, sober intentions for the Church, the world, people in difficulty, and the local community, with an introduction and conclusion for the priest. These original examples may be adapted for the celebration and reviewed by the celebrant.

Should every intention mention the feast?

No. Keep the special focus in proportion and leave room for the wider needs of the Church and world.

Can a feast date differ between places?

Yes. Confirm the calendar used by the parish before adding a date or selecting the readings.
